Neighbourhood Development Plan – Latest Consultation News and Information 2021
Please come along to Longhoughton Community & Sports Centre and take part in this important consultation – your views are very important.
The Parish Council, through a Steering Group which includes representatives from the local community, is preparing a Neighbourhood Plan to enable the local community to guide where and how development happens in the future as well as protecting and enhancing what is important to us. Our plan can include a range of policies and allocate sites both for protection and development. Once adopted, any planning applications in our parish will be assessed against the policies within the plan.
We have undertaken a lot of background work and we feel it is important to obtain feedback on this before we prepare draft planning policies and land allocations. We need your views on our proposals and the evidence we have compiled to support them.
This is your opportunity to help influence the development of the Parish from now up to 2036. You will have the opportunity to view explanatory short films and review all the documentation. Members of the Steering Group will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Please note, all documentation and illustrative films are also available by clicking HERE

HEALTHWATCH NORTHUMBERLAND – WHAT DOES IT OFFER EVERYONE IN NORTHUMBERLAND?
Healthwatch Northumberland is the independent champion for people in Northumberland who use health and social care services. As a statutory function (there’s a Healthwatch in each council area of England), we listen to your experiences of GPs, hospitals, dentists, mental health services, care homes and home care – any care service you may have used – and influence change and improvements in these services. We also offer a signposting service where we can help find you a new dental practice or GP for example, help you make complaints, register a concern or give praise, and we can put you in touch with local support groups and services. Our website has a range of health advice and information, the latest on local health issues and lists local events and ways of getting your voice heard by care providers and commissioners.

Dog Fouling
Northumberland County Council
It’s an offence not to clean up after your dog. Dog mess is a problem affecting footpaths, playing fields, parks and other public places. Find out more and report dog fouling here.
Reporting dog mess
How do we deal with dog fouling?
We don’t tolerate dog fouling in Northumberland. If you own a dog and it makes a mess, you clean it up. Failing to pick up after your pet is antisocial, dirty and spreads diseases like toxicariasis, which is of risk to children and can cause blindness. Yet it continues to be a problem, and one we take very seriously.
If you’re found to have not cleaned up your dog’s mess, you will be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £100.
If payment is not received within 14 days you will be prosecuted. Offenders face a court appearance, with a maximum penalty of £1,000. Claiming ignorance of the dog’s actions is not a valid defence. Registered blind dog owners are exempt from any fines.
We target hotspot areas identified by the public and carry out early morning, evening and weekend patrols if necessary. We’ve also trained more officers to enforce dog control orders and issue fines.
We work hard to make sure the bins provided for dog mess are well maintained and emptied regularly.
Northumberland Coast AONB
An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is exactly what it says it is: an outstanding landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are so precious that it is in the nation’s interest to safeguard them.
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a statutory designation established by the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. Together with National Parks, AONBs represent the nation’s finest landscapes. The primary purpose of the AONB designation is to conserve and enhance natural beauty.
The Northumberland Coast was designated as an AONB in 1958, covering an area of 138 sq km along 64km of the coastline between Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Coquet Estuary.
